Comments: My grandfather, Howard Lyke, is a purple heart Marine of the Korean War. He served in Korea from 1950-1951. Pendleton, Port Chicago and then to Korea. He was on the Inchon landing at Wombi-du and Seoul.

Howard passed away a few weeks ago and he was a proud Marine. We have always tried to contact others in his company but they are few and hard to find. We are thankful for all of our Vet's but we remember those especially who served in Korea. God Bless.

Comments: Looking for Corpsman Benedict Wolf and/or 1st lt. John Thomas Murphy' I need their testimony RE: the winter of 1951, we were on hill 1087, 26 of us went at night, down into the valley to catch a prisoner. We were dressed in white camouflage, 13 0f us went across the river on a foot bridge, thirteen stayed behind as rear guard.
while waiting for the enemy to come along, the Chinese saw us and attacked our rear guard, Johnson got killed, to help our rear guard, we had to ford the river. as we came up out of the water. bullets were flying. sparks were flying from the rocks. something hit my right knee and cut it. Lt. Murphy saw that I was hit. the Corpsman put a compress on my knee. We carried our dead up the hill. our location and the weather was such that it was several days before a copter could get in. in the meantime my paperwork (tag) got lost and the only record that I received a minor wound is the testimony of Lt. Murphy or Corpsman Wolf or anyone else there that night. all the details are to help refresh any ones memory.

NEW BOOK ABOUT RECKLESS, WARHORSE OF THE 5TH REGIMENT

City and State: CHESTER CT

Unit:

Service or Relationship: INTERESTED PERSON

Comments: Just published, THEY CALLED HER RECKLESS -- A TRUE STORY OF WAR,
LOVE AND ONE EXTRAORDINARY HORSE, by Janet Barrett, is the full
story of the indomitable Korean pony who became the warhorse of
the 5th Regiment during the Korean War. Awarded two Purple Hearts
for wounds sustained during the Battle for Outpost Vegas, she
hauled ammo day and night, supplying both recoilless rifles and
mortar crews in that harrowing conflict. Promoted to sergeant
(and later, staff sergeant), Reckless saved lives, lifted
spirits, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. The
generous help of more than 60 Marines who served with her during
the Korea years and thereafter made this book possible. Thank you
all! 14 pages of photographs embellish her amazing story. Book is
available through various Marine Corps sites (including the
Marine Corps Association and the National Museum of the Marine
Corps) and on Amazon.com.

As he served in Korea in 1954 so he would have been a
young man at that time. I would like to return this
bible to a living relative of this Marine if
possible. If I can't locate one I will as a Veteran
keep it preserved in his Honor with the Dignity it

Bobby/ Bob Hays. He was from southern Illinois, Johnston City,
Williamson County. At the beginning of the war, he served on the
USS Toledo supporting the Inchon landings, then received further
training at Camp Pendleton before going to Korea. I don't know if
this helps, but he talked about 2 friends named Carl and Robbie,
and always carried a can of peanut butter with him, even in combat.

When we were down in Pan Mon Jum area to get the chinese off of the peace zone line the Doc was right behind Booker as he fired the Brownie Automatic Weapon (BAR). We fought our way out!
