Comments: I am looking for Sgt. Robert J. Coffey or his family. I am in possession of a green book with writing on the outside that is either Korean or Chinese. This book was given to my mother Jacque Miller for safe keeping after his capture. It is a diary and has pictures inside of it of his family that were sent to him while he was held prisoner. I am just looking to reunite this book with Robert, or to return it to his family.
Thanks,
Robert

He passed away in 1977, when I was only 17, so I never really got a chance to know him and all that he went through as a POW. He simply didn't want to talk about most of it. Does anyone out there recall my Dad? I would love to hear any snippets of your memories of my Hero

My grandfather served in the U.S. Army and was captured by the Chinese "Reds" on January 3, 1951. He was in the Chang-Song POW camp for 31 months and released on August 24, 1953. He was in the 25th Division Unit 27. Once released he returned home and met my grandmother and had 8 children, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. I am the first and oldest grandchild and am proud of the Man my Grandfather was. I am actually online in hopes to have his name placed on a memorial. Thank you to all who have served, and died for our Freedom and others'. My Heroic Grandfather has since passed away on November 21, 2000 at the age of 71.

Excerpt from series:.... I also mentioned the many men who died on the
march north & were just left along the way. I also met a POW who said
that he was the sole survivor of a group of 400 who died in the winter
of '50 - '51.
He was doing demolition work for the Chinese & got special food which
allowed him to survive. This was in a mountainous town somwhere N-E of
Pyongyang or Sinanju.
The only grave locations I know exactly, are the ones behind an old
temple about a half mile east of camp #1 in Chungsung. This is located
about 125deg, 15min E. Long. and 40deg, 26min N. Lat. This is my best
estimate based on several maps, none of which have a town called
Changsung at that location. There is a town called Chang-ni about
there on modern maps.
When I arrived in July, I was told that the men were dying at the rate
of 10 to 15 per day. This went on to about the early fall, then
tapered off to a very low rate by the end of the year. There could be
as many as 200 to 400 buried there.

THANKS FOR DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB HELPING NOT ONLY THE MEN WHO SERVED
IN THE KOREAN WAR BUT ESPECIALY THE FAMILIES WHO ARE LEFT WITH
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR MISSING LOVED ONES! KEEP UP THE
GOOD WORK.
I WAS CAPTURED APRIL 23,1951 BY THE NORTH KOREANS AND THE CHINESE
AND I WAS RELEASED AUGUST 15,1953 .IT WAS A VERY BLESSED DAY FOR ME
NOT ONLY BEING RELEASED BUT IT WAS ON THE SAME DATE OUR BLESSED
MOTHER ASSENDED INTO HEAVEN!!!
EX-POW FROM CAMP # 1 NORTH KOREA FROM 4/23/1951 TO 8/15/53
Note: I was also wondering if you could help me with trying to locate
my BIBLE I left in Inchon, Korea. I know it has been many, many years
ago, but it has bothered for so many years that I found it in Korea and
ironically it was left there. I had a diary written in there of alot of
experiences that took place on our march to our prison camp and the
results that took place in the camp. It was in POW camp #1 that i did a
lot of writing in it. The Chinese thought they took all my important
belongings but unknown to them they left me with the most important
belonging of all !!! As we were leaving Inchon for our trip home is
when I noticed it was missing. I'm sure if it is God's Will someone
will send it to me if they still have it.

My father was in pow camp #1, at least after June 1952. I have no
letters dated before then. The name on the book is pi T'ung Camp. It
was stamped in 1952.
I'm searching for more detailed information about my father's plight
as a POW in Korea. As present Commander of the SAL, I am preparing to
present Post 17 with a diary given to POW's of the pi T'ung camp.
I want to do this on the 50th Anniversary so that history, as it relates
to our community, may be displayed for future generations to enjoy.
