Comments: Dear Special People:
I want to first thank all of you who went to war for all of us. I was not born at the time of these tragic days but have many Uncle's and a Father who was inthe different wars.
My question is this: I am looking for a picture or as many pictures as I can obtain on the USS Kula Gulf CVE 108. The reason for this is that my mother is writing a journal of her life and experiences and adding all of the different ships her brother-in-laws were on. My Uncle Johnny Winters was on this ship in I think 1951 and after. Does anyone have any pictures in which we could obtain over the net to download and put in my Mother's Memories and More Book? I would be grateful if you could send them to my email address at karatekicker@marion.net
Please let me know either way and if anyone might happen to know my Uncle John Winters he is alive and doing well.
Thanks again for everything.
Jill Chitwood Marion, Ohio

Comments: My father served on the USS Kula Gulf somewhere between December of 1951 and August of 1955. His name is Stuart Owen Milliron from Blasdell, NY. He would have been 20 in August of 1955. If anyone remembers him and can give me some information that would be wonderful. I know this is a long shot, but one I had to try.

Comments: My grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and Korea. I have been unable thus far to find much about his service. I have been able to acertain that he was recalled for Korea, 4 Dec 50 - 12 Sep 51 and that he was stationed onboard the USS Kula Gulf (CVE-108) during this time. Can you tell me anything about deployments, unit awards, or any other pertenant info covering that time period. I am trying to put together a shadow box for my mother the will encompass the military service of my grandfather, my step-father and myself.
Thanks for your help.

When the Korean conflict brought an urgent need for a greatly expanded need throughout the world, KULA GULF recommissioned at Boston 15 February 1951, Captain Alden D. Schwarz in command. After shakedown out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the escort carrier departed Norfolk 6 August and carried a cargo of airplanes, to Casablanca, French Morocco. Following her return to Norfolk 1 September, she spent the next 15 months training pilots of helicopter, air-antisubmarine, and fighter squadrons to strengthen U.S. forces in Korea.
